Palacio da China: Chinese restaurant

  • Restaurant Name: Palacio da China

On our first day in Lagos we made a trip to Sagres and after returning to the hotel in the
early afternoon we decided to go to the chinese restaurant that we had seen on the way to the hotel the day before. We love Chinese food so it was hard to resist and we knew that on our way to north and around we'd taste enough Portuguese food so this was our chance.
Palacio da China was the most expensive Chinese we visited on our trip, but we took cheapest portions on the menu, so it wasn't too expensive, but a bit above the average to what we were used to spending for lunch by then. Two soups, shark fin soup and hot chicken soup cost 1.5 E each, Chaw-chaw rice with vegetable, 4.90, Pork in oyster sauce 5.30 and squid fish chop soy 5.30, water 0.80 and cola, 1.30E.The total was 20.60 Euro and the food was great. If we hadn't paid attention to the prices on the menu, the meal could easily have cost double as there were expensive portions too.

On the second day in Lagos and after the cruise to the grottoes we tried another Chinese restaurant as we were very hungry and saw a tempting Prato do Dia (dish of the day) menu with great prices. The restaurant Sheng Hua is located on the street in front of the marina, close to a petrol station. The two soups cost 1.90 E each, two Prato do Dia cost 4.65E each. With our usual cola and water the bill was 14.90 E, and the food was great. When they brough us the bill we got drinks on the house, two to chose from: rice wine (on the right in the pictures)
and lizzard liquer (on the left) which has whole lizzards in the bottle. We couldn't resist
the temptation of tasting both of them! We never had tasted lizzards before!

Lovely Lagos page Sirpa. We were there a few years ago. I remember all the pottery shops there. The grottos look beautiful. Lizzards in the liquer - Ewww!

Interesting little page with brilliant photos of this well know Algarve resort. Unfortunately I only made it to Faro in this part of Portugal.
