Helsinki was chosen to be among the 100 most boring places to visit by somebody some time ago. There surely are more interesting and more lively places in this world, but while being in Finland, it is one of the most interesting places . It also depends on what you want.
If you want to watch huge ferries and icebreakers, like to buy hats with character, grilled sausages, salmon paella at the market , watching sloths in zoo, walking among many Japanese tourists who love the Finnish design , Helsinki is the place for you!

You can easily walk around all the main sites in the center, and anything further away you can reach by the public transport and the ferries. There is some impressive architecture and churches.

...is one of the main places to visit. Here you can enjoy nice fish meals, try some hats with character, watch the huge ferries arrving and departing, spend time hanging around and admire the buildings.
In winter it can be very cold and depressing. The best time to visit is the summer. September is nice too - that's when I was there.
