Train: Train from Civitavecchia to Rome TERMINI

Getting TO/AROUND: We got to Rome from Civitavecchia (we were on a cruise and the ship docked for a day at the port) by train. The trip took one hour and 15 minutes and cost 4.10 EUR per person one way. We got off at Termini, the railway station is huge and it takes alot of time to get out from there - the train from Civitavecchia stops far away from the entrance.... and of course on the way back (after you have managed to see some of Rome which is chaotic, full of people and very hot in summer) you will have to be back on the train in time not to miss your cruise ship and again it is exhausting getting back to the ship. There are many shops in Termini and you can easily spend there lots of time just looking at things and people and not get bored.

Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: We took the Open Trambus from Rome Termini. Day ticket cost 13 EUR per person. You can hop on and off the bus as much as you like. The problem was that we got late to Rome, it was already past 11.00AM when we boarded the bus, so there was not much time to get on and off as we had to get back to Civitavecchia port/ our ship by evening, so mostly we just admired Rome from the bus. Also there were demonstrations on the streets of Rome that day and the whole area of Colosseum was closed! So there was a change in route (keep in mind that this can happen often in Rome). It was very hot on the 1st of September and many people on the bus and everywhere. It was very chaotic and not a nice experience. For the full route and more information see the website below.

gilabrand Mon Oct 5, 2009 07:19 UTC Well, I saw Rome in the Rain. It was not hot at all....but chaotic, yes. I guess that is the nature of the beast. LOL | Trillian2005 Wed Nov 29, 2006 20:19 UTC All paths lead to Rome and apparently also to cheese sandwiches and Fanta. Although, if one follows the cheese sandwich and Fanta trail, one might also end up in Chania, as I understand it. Now that is confusing! |
