Rome wasn't seen in a day...

by haiamisa - last update: Nov 28, 2006

...and this was the case indeed. We got to Rome on a train from Civitavecchia where our cruise ship docked for the day. It took time to get to Rome as the port is about 70km away and we got off the train at Termini only after 11.00AM. We took the open Trambus, city tour, to get an impression of the city, but we didn't have much time to hop on and off as we had to get back to the ship for the evening. So my Rome impressions were sadly short. The Colosseum area was closed because of demonstrations on the streets of Rome that day. The day was very hot, the 1st of September 2006, the city was very chaotic, traffic was horrible and there were tourists everywhere. Generally it wasn't a nice experience and it was quite a relief to get back to the ship in the evening.
Interesting facts:
I visited Rome for a week in April 1983 and back then had lots of time to walk the streets and the archeaological sites. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera back then.
Will I visit Rome again? I doubt it, but who knows.

Well, I saw Rome in the Rain. It was not hot at all....but chaotic, yes. I guess that is the nature of the beast. LOL

All paths lead to Rome and apparently also to cheese sandwiches and Fanta. Although, if one follows the cheese sandwich and Fanta trail, one might also end up in Chania, as I understand it. Now that is confusing!
