... was very hot indeed. We arrived to Italy during the worst heat wave in 100 years. So what, you might wonder, you live in Israel! Yes of course we live in Israel and it is very hot here, but Israel is very organized with airconditioning and Italy is not. We escaped
the heat of Trieste for three days in Venice (by train) and were happy to have A/C in the hotel. In fact we didn't want to leave the hotel room at all, but that would have been a bit silly staying only in the hotel on our first visit to Venice. We managed to see things despite the heat and despite the tourist crowds. The streets were so crowded that it was difficult to walk at times.
And what did we do in Venice?
We visited the Doge's Palace, museums of San Marco's square, Campanile tower,
the Jewish Ghettto (it was here that ghetto got its name),
Murano - the island of glass. . We walked around and rode in Vaporetti, the water bus. We enjoyed the A/C in the hotel room and paid far too much on far too many cold drinks that weren't even cold enough. We had some great pasta and pizzas and wonderful icecream too.
Sometimes I still think about that Italian icecream (and am already waiting to have some in Italy August 2006!)... and about the lovely
Hotel Paganelli. ... and sometimes I still wonder about
that cat....
