Beautiful Istanbul

Sunrise above Topikapi Palace
What can I say about Istanbul that hasn't been said already?
The city is such a mixture of east and west, a mixture of history and present,
a mixture of traditions and modern life...
Istanbul is beautiful with its location along the Bosphorus, with the sun rising from behind Topikapi Palace, with the sounds of muezzin in the moonlight...
Visiting Istanbul was a real adventure!
At the Blue mosq

Where to stay

We stayed at two locations while in Istanbul. First of all in Kafkas Hotel in Sultanahmet, just beside the three main sights: Topikapi Palace, Hagia Sophia and
the Blue Mosq.
Afterwards we moved to Devman hotel in the Taksim area in order to feel the modern city with its night life, shops and busy streets. This is what I recommend to anybody visiting Istanbul, do stay at the both areas if you stay more than three nights!
The both hotels we stayed at were good budget hotels with excellent locations. I recommend them both!
City view

Bosphorus

You should also not miss the Bosphorus Cruise which gives you the opportunity to see Istanbul from the sea and to cruise to Anadolu Kavagi close to the Black Sea.

And you should visit Istanbul again... just like I should and hopefully one day will!

Pros:"So much history and present! What a city!"
Cons:"Of course too many tourist groups at the main sites...."
In A Nutshell:"Where east meets west - where history meets present ."

Now this is a great hotel tip for an expensive city! I appreciated the common sense tips you offered and will have to look at those of your home country. We want to be there around Christmas time.
