Bet Shean then and now

The ancient streets
For me Bet Shean is a bit mysterious place. I still haven't managed to figure it out. I went there many times in 1980-1981 when I stayed in the area at Kibbutz Reshafim, I was a volunteer back then. Then in 1986-87 I again ended up staying in the area for some 6 months. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures from that time. The ones I have show much earlier era.
After that I have visited sometimes, that means drove past when heading towards south; to Jerusalem, The Dead Sea or Eilat or all of them together or only two of them. And then there is this love to arheaological places.. and that made me specially visit there few times. My 2005 visit was really off the beaten path as my car broke down and I was towed far away to Qfar Yassif near Acco to get it fixed.. but that is another story. For the time being you can join me to a visit at the ruins of the old city.
Mysteriously I just figured out that there are not many pages about Bet Shean on VT...
The reconstruction
This is the reconstruction of the good old times when the city was important to kings and their people.
The traveller
The modern times show only the lonely traveller waiting for her car to be towed away... Well, not everyone who waits for the tow truck to arrive gets to wait at the ancient amphitheater.

Thinking of visiting this week on the way to the Kinneret. I heard it will be unseasonably cold, so that's the best time to visit Beit She'an, right?

Too bad you can't make 20 comments on the same page!! Well, it seems K8 is going to be the Tel Aviv of the North. However, if the sheep are any indication for Main Street, then drivers watch out!
