Art's River View Lodge: By the river at Khao Sok national park

In the jungle near the entrance of Khao Sok National Park, we stayed in a wonderful cottage at Art's River View Lodge. The cottages are widely apart in the jungle. There is a river where you can swim. There are also a lot of monkeys there. Above the river is a bar/restaurant (and reception area) from where you can watch the monkeys bathing in the river. The food is nice and the staff very friendly.

Unique Qualities: See above.
Also great for kids.

ban sukchoke cottages - Thailand

ban sukchoke cottages

Ban Sukchoke Resort: Near floating market

Just an hour outside Bangkok, at Damnoen Saduak, is a nice floating market which people usually visit in a half-day trip from Bangkok. It's much nicer to stay there, in the countryside, among plantations and canals. You see a different part of Thailand.
Lonely Planet says: Ban Sukchoke Resort offers comfortable bungalows set over the canal for 450/700B single/double. There is also a small house that sleeps 10 for 1600B.
We had a 4 person bungalow with fridge, aircon etcetera for about 10 or 12$

Unique Qualities: We stayed at Ban Sukchoke Resort just outside the village. They have lovely little cottages built over small canals. It's also a great place for kids.
Just next door there is a reptile farm with snake shows etcetera. When we were at the hotel, we were the only guests! We had a wonderful time and so did my daughter, who was then 4. The family that runs the hotel took her to see the shows and she saw 2 or 3 in a row! In the meantime, we sat on our veranda enjoying the view over the canals and plantations.

Address: Damnoen Saduak

Comparison: less expensive than average

Directions: Ban Sukchoke is 1,5 km north-west of Damnoen Saduak's market area.
