!!! TOKYO !!!

by veg999 - last update: Jul 6, 2004

The grandfinal sumo tournament!!! So much fun
Tokyo would have to be by far the best place I have ever been. It's culture and way of life is just so intriguing. A lot of people say Tokyo is expensive , but during my stay I found it extremely reasonable.( Mayb because my sister is working over their and has an aprtment. ) You just really need to shop around and not where the tour guides take you. I recomend Euno. it is full of bargains especially in teh sporting department. Arkiharab or electric town is a place wher eyou can pull in a bargain on electrical goods. You can even bargain prices. But be carefull on the currents and voltage. Harajuku is wher ethe young people hang out. On sunday the suburb comes alive with gothic dreesed teens wandering around the train station. The famous meiji shrine can be found in the park near the station. Some bargains can also be picked up along the street stalls. A lot of hip hopgear in this area. Near harajuku is Shibuya great place to see the all of the latest fashion and a lot of miniskirts!!! Everyone in this area seemed to have bleeched hair and great tans cough fake cough. You can really see the younger generation in the suburb. It is also home to the largest crossing in the world. Trust if u are with some one hold on extremely tight you otherwise you probably will get lost in teh crowd.

The food is so tasty ,sushi is great and I was introduced to yaki Niku Korean BBQ , so addictive. You can also buy all the western foods macca's ,KFC, etc I noticed in Japan I didnt see so many in tokyo but in the outer suburbs their was alot of cheap all you can eat places. I definately recommend them for 1000 Yen you can eat the place down. As my sister and had did aquite a few times. One of the best things in Japan is the all you can drink (alcoholic beverages) bars. We went to one in Funabashi it was 500 yen for all you can drink they supplied the alcohol and then you make what drinks you want. this was the cheapest I came across. Also in funabashi, (forgot tp mention this area is south of tokyo) their was a place where it was all you can eat and drink for 2000 yen , but lets just say they supplied a great deal of food. I wish I could remmeber these palces names , I will haev to ask my sister. But I guess they were all through tokyo anyway.

I recommend heading out of tokyo for the day and catching teh train to shin urayasu. their is some great shopping to be done their. Also along the train line you get a great view of the coast. SOme stops along this line are Tokyo disney land ( Was starnge I had never been to any disneyland and for my first one I founf it strange as everything is in japanese, it is still cute though). Tokyo marine park can also befound , was interesting giant lobsters, huge fish and in the park area the 2nd largest ferris wheel in teh world can be found. It was rather scary with the sea breeze getting quite strong .

Myself and my sister also decided to do a ski trip , so we went to Hakuba , near Nagano (winter olympics) It was gorgeous out there. To get away from the hustle of tokyo was great. I had never seen snow before and it was so pretty . The mountains covered with it. I recomend going to hakuba , but just a warning a lot of the small cheaper inns may not take english speaking tourists. We were lucky we had some friends who knew the owners. During this time I experienced true japanese culture. their meals and the bathing habits. The onsen bath was incredible and remember shower before you go in. During the stay here I also found I just can not snow board . I can tobogan and roll .

There is just so much to do in Japan. I stayed for 3 weeks and didn't even get to see half of tokyo. Hopefully I can get back at the end of the year and finish it off.

Hello Lavina! Nice little page on Tokyo. Lately I've become more and more interested in Japan and might even travel there one day. You share your birthday with my son who is also 21 today. Happy birthday from Finland!
