Poplavok and Aragast: Poplavok and Aragast

These are actually two restaurants in a ship immitation near a pond just one block north from Sayat-Nova street, so it can still be considered central. If you enter from the Isahakian street, you'll most likely enter an upstairs Aragast, if you approach from the pond you'll likely end at Poplavok. Both restaurants mainly serve drinks ands ice cream and also food. Whichevere you go into, you'll get an extensive wide range menu, Poplavok even has a special section about Armenian food. Prices are moderate not higher than any similar Yerevan restaurant, the service is quite good plus you can enjoy a view to the pond. No language problems if you speak Russian or English.

Favorite Dish: At both of them I took a main dish without soup but with an Armenian beer and both times it cost less than approx. 2000 drams (4$)

Address: Isahakian street

Comparison: about average

Directions: Near a pond (or a lake as the locals call it) one block north from Sayat Nova street

Price: less than US$10

Our Village: Our Village

If you stay at any of the ladies at Sayat-Nova 5, you'll only have to go downstairs but others will also find it very central just go downstairs near Brabion flower shop. The restaurant serves strictly Armenian products. The menu (in Armenian, Russian and English) is hand written and therefore a bit hard to read and even in English only names of dishes (without description) were transliterated from Armenian but the waitress was kind enough to explain me everything in details. I spoke Russian to them so I don't know if they speak English, but probably they do. I was a bit early there and I could listen to the recorded Armenian folk music but I've heard that live music is performed at evenings. It is in the same price range as other similar restaurants in Yerevan.

Favorite Dish: I had a soup of the day (made of yoghurt), ikibir (shashlik) and okroshka (on that day I really wasn't in the right mood for otherwise compulsory beer) All together incl. a tip it cost an equivalent of 5$

Address: Sayat-Nova 7

Comparison: about average

Directions: Sayat-Nova is just north of the Republic Square, near the Opera, Freedom, Square etc. The restaurant is just under Brabion flower shop.
