We made a short visit to Whitby in July 2006, over a couple of scorching hot days, was almost tempted to swim in the north sea. Whitby is a tradition English family holiday resort, bit jaded around the edges but still with lots to offer. Most famous is probably the Abbey, site of the original Dracula story. Seen here from West Whitby. Be prepared for a climb to reach the abbey. there are plenty of chip shops but one, The Magpie Cafe, attracts the crowds more than others. It is possible to sit in the restaurant, or buy take-away and eat on the quayside. If you do this watch out for the seagulls. |
