Everyone warned us that Venice in the summer is crowded, but get in the back streets and it is easier.
Well we found that although it was busy, even St. Mark wasn't too bad.
I was blown over by the place and will go back for a weekend so that I can see it at night. We caught a train from Latisana, journey of about 1 hour. We also went the otehr direction to Treiste, unfortunately had problems with camera so no pictures.

A friend suggested catching the number 1 water bus from outside the station, it goes all the way up the Grand Canal across the lagoon to Lido. You can but a ticket that allows you to travel all the way up and back down or one that allows you to get on and off as you want.

Lignano Sabbiadora is a peninsula out into Grado lagoon. Theer are 3 sections, Sabbiadora- the lively part with the marina and base for boat trips. Pineta, still plenty to do and as name suggest buildings are surrounded by pine trees. Finally the area we stayed- Riveria, much quieter, area favoured by families. Couple of bars and restuarants. The public beach is nearest the river. The whole area is easily travelled by the local bus service, they run late. There is a regular bus to Latisanno, and the train station.
A massive market is held on Mondays.
