Halkidiki- Kassandra peninsular

Kalithea

Kalithea beach
This small village is on the western & most populated peninsular of Halkidiki. It is about 45minutes from Thessaloniki airport, and overlooks the Sithonia peninsular. The name kalithea means Good View.
The village is well developed but not over the top, in other words there are not loads of Sky Sport Bars & English pubs.
There are a few hotels & apartments in the village itself. We stayed in a hotel a 10 minute walk away down a fairly quite lane.
There is a busy main running through the village, so be careful.

The beach

The beach is at the bottom of a steep cliff, there is a road running down and parking at the bottom. The sea here seems to be safe to swim in I didn't find any sharp drops in depth although by the shoreline there are some rocks, water shoes are advisable, see my warning. The sea is crystal clear and warm. There are sunbeds to hire, but also plenty of space to get away from the crowds. There are limited water sport facilities on this beach, I believe they are more developed further along the peninsula. There is very little shade on the beach. At the top of the road to the beach is a very nice bar, just the right place to catch you breath as you come back up. It is done in a traditional style.

evening on the beach

We found that the beach was very pleasant in the evenings when the heat of the sun had gone. Not the best place for pictures of sunsets, being on the east coast, but great for sunrise photos if you are that keen!
There are a couple of tavernas along the sea front, we ate in one on our 1st night, ok but I wouldn't rush back for anything more than a snack.
I did enjoy my evening swims, the water was still warm.
