Singapore the Lion city, gets its name from the Sanskrit word Singapura which means Singh-Lion and pura-city.

The Theatres on the Bay are located at the waterfront overlooking Marina Bay. The theatres are a great landmark because of its durian like dome-shaped roofs that house a 1,600-seat concert hall and a 2,000-seat theatre. It is called “the Durian” by locals and the Theatres on the Bay look like Durian, but thankfully no they do not smell like durian.

The original Merlion statue is at the opening of the Singapore River. A larger replica is found at Sentosa Island.

Singapore River runs across the downtown of Singapore and is a great area for an evening meal and walk. It is one of the most popular tourist areas. There are plenty of restraunts and places to stop and relax along the river and watch the boats and admire the Singapore skyline.
