Living in NYC

Spending time in The Big Apple

A view from Brooklyn Bridge
OK,

There are lots of big cities around the world. But there is nothing like NYC.

Go there, get away from Times Square and check out the city.

There are many things that need to be done in NYC. Some involve acting like a tourist, some involve finding out how New Yorkers live...

All involve not going to TGI Friday's near TS. You can go to TGI anywhere in North America, why do it in New York.

Mostly, get out and experience it!

Staying in NYC

I have stayed in New York many times. Millenium, Paramount or Edison are all right near Times Square and the action there.

Best place I found (and my regular hotel now) is The Beacon Hotel on the Upper West side.

All the hotels in Times Square suffer from the same problem, lack of space. If you like living in a closet and bieng able to wash your hands while lying in bed, these hotels work. Don't get me wrong, they do amazing things with the decor and the service. Definitely NYC Character and worth experiencing.

But The Beacon is older, and a little less polished. At the same time, it has King sized beds, marble bathrooms and kitchenettes. Lastly, it is where New Yorkers live. So you get New Yorker restaurants and stores, no tourist stores.

New Yorkers eat exceptionally well. The restaurants that are geared towards NYC residents need to be fast, good and reasonably priced. Otherwise they will quickly go under. NYC residents Eat out all the time. They have to....

So go to a residental area and eat at a restaurant that is not full of tourists. Discover the difference....

Pros:"There is only one Big Apple...."
Cons:"There is only one Big Apple????"
In A Nutshell:"If this is your cup of tea, you gotta live it to know it!!"
