We have now been to Oahu (island with Honolulu on it) three times. Each time we made a different experience of it.
This trip was a little different, we have been travelling for 5 weeks already and we were running very low on cash. Though we were almost broke, we still feel that this trip was actually the best. Take a look at the pages and hopefully you will see why.

If you go to Oahu, make the trip to Pearl Harbour. It is important...

When you go to Oahu, don't just stay in Waikiki, get on a bus, rent a car or in our case - Harley's and get around the Island.

Travelling Oahu is not complicated, it is an island and not a large one at that. You can do it all in a couple of days.

There are many different beaches around the island, all with public washrooms and showers, many with lifeguards. All a lot less populated than Waikiki.
Most important, always check the beaches for signs about currents and rips. Some beaches around the island may look good to swim, but have serious rip currents that will drown you! Be careful, make sure you read all posted signs and never underestimate the sea.

Just to warn you while we were in Honolulu for a week in 2003, the Nimitz Air carrier group came into harbour and everyone was given three days leave.

Needless to say, every sailor went to Waikiki and all the hookers went down to meet them. My friends and I ended up partying in the gay bar, because that was the only place that drunk crazy sailors were not everywhere.

Now I do not blame them, they have a tough job. Also, see my note above about Pearl Harbour. It is just that when I go on vacation, the only drunk obnoxious people I want to hang with are the friends I bring with me.
