Amsterdam, the city of sins and drugs, set in Netherlands, the country of windmills, folklore and wooden shoes. These contrasting settings certainly make Amsterdam one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Whether it is your reason for visiting Amsterdam, do make sure you visit one of the 'coffee shops' and soak yourself in the room of marijuana, and take a stroll in the red-light district, where windows and windows of naked women are 'displayed'. But that's by no means all there is to Amsterdam. In terms of cultural activities, there are numerous museums (Van Gogh Museum for one) that are well worth visiting. A side trip to Volendam is also highly recommended, although it is a bit like a tacky tourist trap, tourists got to do what tourists are meant to do! For a foreigner like me, the traditional costumes, the windmills, the large collection of klompen (wooden shoes) are still fascinating nonetheless. |
