Fall River has a rather interesting history, but I will only touch on a few of the basics here.
In the early part of the 1900s, Fall River was populated by a large proportion of francophones that worked in the mills that made up the bulk of the local industry. Over time, this has changed, so that today the predominant population is of Portuguese descent. Many of the residents are second or third generation, but there are still some first-generation immigrants.
Fall River earned a place in the dark parts of history around 1893, when Lizzie Borden's father and step mother were brutally murdered. Lizzie was accused of the murders, but acquitted. The Borden house is now a "BnB".
Better things to see in Fall River include Battleship Cove, where the battleship USS Massachusetts is on display. There are a few other ships there as well. I really enjoyed the displays. |
