Isle Of Wight Car Ferry - Portsmouth

Isle Of Wight Car Ferry

Portsmouth Ferry Terminals

Portsmouth has two main ferry terminals, which are both easily accessible, and linked well with bus routes.

There is the Isle Of Wight Terminal, which can be found at the far end of the Harbour Train Station. Here you'll find the bright yellow FastCat passenger ferries running regularly every half hour to Ryde. There is a nice cafe in the waiting area, and also a spot where you can pick up tourist info for IOW.

Ticket prices can vary depending on the time of the day you travel (later = cheaper), the time of season, and the number of days you intend to spend on the Island. Whilst crossings generally take around 15mins.

To get on the car ferry to Fishboune IOW, or to venture yet further afield, you need to make your way to the otherside of Gunwharf Quays, to the Portmouth International Ferry Terminal.

Here there are massive ferries and cruiseboats leaving regularly for Le Havre, Caen and Cherbourg in northern France, and Bilbao in Spain.

The Hard - Portsmouth

The Hard

The Hard Interchange

The Hard Interchange is where all of the main transport links in Portsmouth tie together.

From here there are buses to anywhere in Portsmouth Borough, and as far as Brighton, with services as regular as every 10minutes to Southsea and Commercial Road (the main shopping street).

There is also a National Express terminal, where you can get a coach for a very reasonable price, to pretty much anywhere in england. From Portsmouth, there are direct services to Birkenhead, Birmingam, London, Heathrow Airport, Bradford, Penzance and Blackpool.
For further information on coach fares, timetables, booking tickets, go to www.nationalexpress.com

There is also obviously the train station, where you can buy single or return jouneys to Southsea, Fratton, Hilsea and Cosham (in Portsmouth) or further afield to London Waterloo, where you can change trains.
