Trier is believed to be Germany's oldest city. The Romans founded Trier in 16 BC. It eventually became one of the most important northern cities. At the end of the 3rd century, Trier was an Imperial Residence and capital of the West-Roman Empire. The city is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Trier is a compact city that can be seen in one day by foot. There are plenty of very good restaurants and the ancient Roman ruins are fantastic. I especially enjoyed the Market Square. It is one of the nicest I have seen in Germany. |
