No Sleep 'Til...

What a nice place to live!

I moved to Brookline and anticipated a fabulous experience. Wow! In terms of the town, the experience delivers. But it helps if you don't have a car (parking is expensive and hard to come by; my household rented a space for over $100 a month, and it was a little ways away, which was no fun in the wintertime). Apartments are a little more expensive than in some other places in Boston. You can go over a couple of streets to the Allston/Brighton area, and there are many many lovely apartments at lower prices which have a great deal of character. But Brookline was great. I lived just off Beacon Street and could watch the Boston Marathon go by my window. The town is very clean and safe and features a great library system (where I worked very happily). Lots of boutiques, coffee bars, and funky little restaurants add, and the green line goes right on up through Beacon Street. If you get off at St. Mary's, the first aboveground stop, it's a short but lovely walk to Coolidge Corner. If you go up on the right side of Beacon, you'll find a great park, with a lake. If you get ready to go up Beacon and look behind you, past the Dunkin' Donuts and the Mexican restaurant a little further, you will see the Boston Rare Books Annex. It has lots of deals, not lots of rare books, and two EXCELLENT cats. One will lick the skin off your hand if you let it. The other is slightly more aloof. I am ashamed to say I have forgotten their names.

Actually, I did ride the MBTA every day. If you want to appreciate the MBTA, move to Cleveland and try its public transit for a week. Ayy!

It's obvious that you don't ride the MBTA on a daily basis. How else could you love it? ; )
