The Flea market was set up by JARA in cooperation with the Municipality of Greater Amman, and it will be a weekly occurence, taking place each Friday
from 10 am to 9 pm. Due to begin this month on May 5, it will be a profusion of colour and activity as stalls are laid out along Fawzy Ma'louf Street (which passes in front of the Jordan
River Foundation building and runs through to the old staircase leading down to the RSCN Nature Center). The 180 meter strip will host between 80 to 100 stalls where individuals and organizations can flog their offerings on a regular basis. "It [the market] gives individuals the opportunity to gain exposure for their works, whether it is art, crafts or anything else," says Abdel Rahim AI Biqai', Deputy Mayor of Amman. Stall holders will be selling anything from homemade preserves to antiques to fashion clothing. Artists and craftsmen will be able to promote and sell their work and food vendors can ben efit from the keen appetites of unhurried passers by. The market can give a boost to those who operate small businesses out of their homes, and it will bring energy and diversity to the area.
