"Quebec's off-the-beaten-path destination!" Cap-aux-Meules by Jefie

Cap-aux-Meules Travel Guide: 27 reviews and 61 photos

The beautiful Iles-de-la-Madeleine, or Magdalen Islands as they are sometimes called in English, are located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the world's largest estuary. Even though the Islands are actually closer to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, they are part of the province of Quebec. Les Iles-de-la-Madeleine form a small archipelago made up of about a dozen islands, six of which are connected by a road built on narrow sand dunes. These are the islands of Grande-Entrée, Grosse-Ile, Ile-aux-Loups, Havre-aux-Maison, Cap-aux-Meules and Havre-Aubert.

All my life I've dreamed about visiting les Iles-de-la-Madeleine, and in July 2010 my dream finally came true when Sylvain and I, along with his cousin Vincent, decided to spend a couple days at les Iles. Since we didn't have a lot of time, we only managed to see three islands (Havre-aux-Maison, Cap-aux-Meules and Havre-Aubert) but we loved every minute of our time spent on the Islands. The magnificient landscapes and delicious food, the unique architecture and lovely local accent made us feel like we were miles away from home! I'm quite determined to go back and explore the Islands some more but in the mean time, I hope you'll enjoy browsing through the following tips and pics!

I didn?t know you had an international pig collection. Good that you found an appropriate sand sculpture. I love the French names of all these islands.

Hi Isa, although I am currently in a very lovely location myself (Bordeaux, France), I couldn't help searching for potential travel destinations for the future - thanks to you I found the Iles de la Madeleine! Fantastic job with superb photos (as usual!).

Hi Isa, looks a nice place to visit, attractive beach and the rocks look fantastic. The water would be too cold for me, still getting mid 30C temp here.
