Catherine making her selection
The first thing a lot of people asked me when I came back from Victoria was "Did you go to Rogers' ?" Perhaps they were hoping for a little treat but unfortunately, even though I did go to Rogers' Chocolates and had every intention of bringing some back home, they were all gone by the end of my trip!! The history of this store goes back to 1885 and today's beautiful Victorian-style chocolaterie gives every customer the feeling of now being part of that oh-so-sweet tradition! Between the creams and squares, the truffles and gourmet chocolates, you're sure to find something that will please even the most refined palates :o)
What to buy: Just make sure you buy enough chocolates to bring some back home!
What to pay: About $1-2/per chocolate
Address: 913 Government Street
Directions: In downtown Victoria, a 5-minute walk from Inner Harbour

Russell Books in Victoria, BC
I have to credit VTer "suziezed" for pointing me in the direction of Russell Books - this might be one of the best second-hand bookstores I've ever been to! Pretty much the entire second floor is dedicated to fiction, and with books from floor to ceiling, the selection is pretty incredible! Most books are in very good shape and the prices are great. Whether you're looking for an obscure classic or a brand-new bestseller, chances are you'll find it at Russell Books. If it hadn't been for my backpack getting so heavy, I might have spend the entire weekend there!
What to buy: Anything you've been dreaming of (bookwise, of course)!
What to pay: Not a lot, except if your book shopping gets out of control ;o)
Address: 734 Fort St
Directions: In the downtown area, between Douglas and Blanshard St.

Munro's Books in Victoria, BC
Of course, the name of the store is an attraction in itself: "Munro's... as in Alice?!" And the answer is "Yes, as in Alice Munro". The talented Canadian writer and her first husband Jim first set up a small bookshop back in 1963, which immediately became popular with Victorians. The store moved to its present location in 1984, and it is now located in a magnificent 1909 neo-classical style building that used to be the Royal Bank of Canada. The architecture creates a very unique atmosphere that will make you want to keep on browsing for hours, especially since the selection of books offered is quite impressive.
What to buy: If you've never read a collection of stories by Alice Munro, this might be the best place to get one!
What to pay: Same as most bookstores, and there are a lot of bargain books.
