Although I've lived fairly close to New York City my entire life, I had never been there. As a kid I'd been told that it was a big and dangerous city, and that you shouldn't visit it on your own. This might have been true 15 years ago, but it certainly isn't the case now! I got my first taste of NYC as I stepped out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal and walked towards Times Square, and that's how long it took for me to fall in love with the city :o) We spent 4 days just walking through the streets of Manhattan, trying to get a good feel of the city (we called this trip our "recognition tour"), and loved every minute of it. New York City is young, fun and vibrant, and very easy to get around. I hope I get to go back again really soon and who knows, maybe I'll even make it to the Statue of Liberty next time!
