Getting TO/AROUND: If you've ever traveled by metro/subway in any city in the world, you'll be pleased to know that traveling by metro in Paris is just as quick and simple! Trains run about every 2-3 minutes from 5:30 to 1:15 am, and although it can be pretty packed during rush hour, it's never so bad that you can't get on. All 14 lines are color-coded, and there are plenty of indications on where to go in all the metro stations. If you get really lost and confused, you can always ask people working at the ticket booth. Most tour guides include a map of the metro, but you can also get a free mini-map at most stations. Also, outside of every metro station, there's a neighborhood map to help you get oriented. We quickly realized how easy it was to walk from one neighborhood to the next in Paris and we therefore decided not to buy a Paris Visit card. It was much cheaper to buy leaflets of tickets (10.90 Euros for 10 tickets) - just make sure you hold on to your ticket as there might be controls in some of the stations (you slide it in the machine and it comes out on top). Musicians and poets often jump in the wagons to play a song or two in between stations - some are pretty dreadful, but some are actually very good! It's up to you whether you want to leave money or not, they're never really pushy.

Getting TO/AROUND: We bought a round-trip ticket with Les Cars Air France to get from Charles de Gaulle airport to our hotel located near the Montparnasse train station because we didn't feel like lugging our suitcases around in crowded metro wagons. Line 4 goes directly to the Montparnasse train station, tickets cost 22 Euros round-trip (valid for one year), and the buses run from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. We bought our ticket at Terminal 2F. It was a comfortable and carefree ride, but if I were to do it again I'd travel by RER and metro. It's cheaper, faster (especially if you're traveling during rush hour), and people really don't seem to mind your big suitcase after all!
