"The Royal Brunei" Brunei and Muara by johnmajor

Brunei, to many people is all about oil, mosque and boredom. I was one of them who has thought these three items sum up what you will find in this country on the Island of Borneo.

I touched down on BSB International Airport on the morning of 26th June 2009. It is a Friday and it is a public holiday in Brunei. I am not surprised to find out that Friday is a public holiday as I come from Kedah, Malaysia also an Islamic State.

I begin my 4D3N stay in Brunei by checking in at D'anggerek Hotel, which is 10mins from the airport. The hotel provides free shuttle from airport but the pick up was late. I was quite anxious about checking-in into the hotel as my friend's brother will be picking me from the hotel. I have not seen my dearest friend - Lydia since she went back to Brunei about 3 months ago. Finally I am here at her home country and I was extremely excited and joy to see her.

On my way to pick her at her office in downtown BSB, my whole mindset and image about Brunei changed instantly. I never thought they have such a high quality infrastructure and the way people over here drive is very polite. I thought Borneo is a Wild Wild East frontier and I was wrong, utterly wrong.
