Singapore Off The Beaten Path

Off The Beaten Path: Marina Boulevard
  • Tip Rating:
  • For an excellent view of the Singapore skyline or for a place to stroll, do visit the Marina Boulevard.

Its right behind the stretch of hotels along Raffles Boulevard - such as Marina Mandarin, Ritz Carlton, Oriental etc. and next to the Esplanade.

Here's a view of the Singapore skyline at night.

Off The Beaten Path: Treetop Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • The MacRitchie area is well known among nature enthusiasts in Singapore. There are several trekking routes with varying levels of difficult which cross country runners make full use of.

In Nov 2004, a suspension bridge was built connecting two hillocks. Its at 5 kms from the main entrance, so its a good 10 kms hike from the starting point and back.

There's very dense foliage along the way, so its pretty shaded all the time.

You don't really need serious trekking gear for this trip as there is no climbing involved. A good pair of hiking boots should do fine.

Off The Beaten Path: Changi Board Walk
  • Tip Rating:
  • Along the eastern coasline of Singapore lies Changi beach. I wouldn't say that there is much of a 'beach' in Changi, but an interesting way to spend an evening would be take a Board Walk to drive away that boredom :-)

Its a nice place to walk leisurely starting from the Changi Sailing club till you reach the Sunset walk. From there, you can get a decent view of the sunset.

While walking on the bridge, you get a good view of Pulau Ubin.

This is how the boardwalk looks like.

  • The Boardwalk is divided into 4 sections - Sailing Point Walk, Cliff Walk, Kelong Walk and Sunset Walk. Click on the image and see if you can spot the boardwalk (its in Yellow Color).

To get there is kinda tricky. You got to find your way to Changi Village. You got to walk past the Le Meridien Changi hotel, past the Chalets and you will reach the Changi Sailing Club. The boardwalk starts right next to the entrance to the Sailing Club.
