Bangkok - an amazing city in the Land of Smiles

Guard at Grand Palace
OK, guys ! I had promised a fellow VTer that I would build a few pages describing my travels and would upload some photos. The lazy bum that I am, never really got around to doing it for so long. Finally, I've got the momentum and I intend to build my pages steadily. I am starting off with my most recent visit to Bangkok. Here goes...

So many things to do...

Bangkok has so many things to offer. I am pretty sure everyone will find something that one is looking for.

There's a mixture of old and new in this city that is so mesmerizing. On the one hand you have the centuries old Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun etc. and on the other hand you have the swanky malls like Emporium, MBK, Gaysorn, Central World Plaza etc.

There are parks, zoos to keep the children occupied.

And then, there is the infamous Patpong with its night market.

There are all kinds of restaurants to satisfy your appetite.

Travelling is a breeze

There is a combination of BTS (Skytrain) and the newly added Subway that makes travel a breeze. If you are here for a few days only, make sure you buy the 3 day BTS tourist pass for THB 280 and it will give you unlimited rides. Also, you can get a map from any BTS station and you can even ask them to mark out the important places you would like to visit. There is a Tourist information centre at the Nana BTS station that I had visited and got lots of useful information.

Pros:"The Thais will steal your heart away. It will make you visit Thailand again and again. The BTS and Subway have really eased all the trouble with getting stuck in traffic jams etc."
Cons:"Organized chaos :-)"
In A Nutshell:"I am in love with this city... pretty certain you will fall in love too."

Thanks for the precise directions to Wat Arun. By the way, the boat prices have changed. The trip from Central Pier (near Saphan Taksin BTS) to Tha Tien pier costs 15Baht; the one to cross over to Wat Arun costs 3.5Baht.
