Road trip out into Kansas

Since I moved here, I've heard nothing from the locals other than how there is a whole lot of nothing once you leave KC and head out into Kansas. On the Fourth of July weekend this year, we decided to go and see for ourselves what we would find in this "frontier". What we found was definitely something, not nothing. We found beautiful rolling hills, warm, friendly people, and a free spirit feeling found only by cruising the countryside, windows down, sunroof open, and tunes kicking.....and seemingly no speed limit to be enforced. Our target? Denmark.

Founded by Danish pioneers in the 1870's

The evidence of the original founders is still present in the form of surnames. Although this mailbox does not date back to the 1870's, you can see that Denmark still has a strong presence here.

"Let's stop here"

The Danish pioneers must have had this thought, as did we, upon entering this shallow valley in North Central Kansas. It reminded us all of the natural Danish countryside....well maybe a bit warmer but that is to be expected. In the center of town, there are a few sections of paved roads, but most of it is gravel and dirt. Fine by us.
