Between September and November 2004, my wife Loretta and I left our home in Sydney Australia and embarked on a 7 week trip to England, Wales, France, Switzerland and Italy. It was our 25th wedding anniversary present to ourselves. We left 3 of our 4 sons at home and met up with the other, who was doing his gap year in Devon, England. Pip ended up travelling a good part of the way with us. |
|  | We had arranged house exchanges and stayed in Cardiff Wales and later in Ige, a little French village in Normandy. From these bases we drove some 8500 kms across the UK, Wales, France, a little bit of Italy and Switzerland, visiting castles, monuments, galleries and all the usual stuff. A highlight of the Swiss part of the journey was a visit to Poschiavo, on the Swiss/Italian border, the birthplace of Loretta's great great grand parents. |
