Dundgovi ... means something like "middle-Gobi" and it's the name of the Aymag which is not so dry like the Gobi and not so cool like the Hangai or "cooler region".
No, it's not the desert yet! And unfortunately we didn't reach the desert. My father's passport was stolen in Ulaanbaatar just before we started the journey with the jeep and we had to rearrange the trip a bit to be earlier in Ulaanbaatar back to check his papers.

Interesting page
I cannot even imagine your experience to be out in nature and the culture of such fine people. YOu did a nice job of discussing the trip. Vienna is the best, though.
Hadn't heard of this place, so had to check it out!
Great that you got to sleep in a ger! Fine photos of this exotic area in your tips and travelogues. I see you have signed up for EuroMeet 2008 in Karlsruhe, so I look forward to meeting you there.
Wow, what a wonderful travel ! Mongolia and the steppe is also high on my list. To stay in a ger must be really something special, and to learn so much from the Nomads :-)
Hello Ursula: Cool DungoviAymag(that's a mouthful) page. Imagine " Gouda" type cheese in Mongolia. That must have been quite an experience to stay in a Ger. xxx Lori
Dundgovi Aymag - the interesting name caught my eye! What an interesting place! Thanks for this lovely glimpse into a nomad's life :) Jen x
Wow! What a great accommodation you had. And warm, I guess :-) I also like long haired goat and that fantastic toilet :-)
