Ever dreamed of being a race car driver? Ever dreamed about it enough to look into racing schools? Ever seen the prices racing schools charge? Ended those dreams pretty quick, huh?
Well, there's an alternative. It's CAM rental racing at Altamont. They have classes/rentals in real midget racecars for as low as $70! Considering most racing schools charge a minimum of $400, it's a real bargain.
The company is MST rentals based in Tracy. They have spectator racing days - usually on Sundays - where you can practice. And once you've got the hang of it, you can compete on race night against other wannabe racers in front of a real crowd! For $249 you get a 10-lap practice run, a qualification run, and then race in a real 20-lap race! Price includes all safety equipment and, best of all, there is no liability for damage occuring during a race!
Equipment: IMPORTANT NOTE: On May 12, 2006, I tried to look up info again on MST and the cam rentals and found zippo, even on Altamont's website, meaning there is a very good chance that this is now defunct. I'd call the track to be sure.
