If Paris and Bruxelles were women, Paris would be the coquette, fun-loving and somewhat wild lover who can give a lot but burn you out too. Brussels would be the unassuming, steady friend. The familiar face you long to see when things get tough. Brussels doesn't have the history of Rome, the bohemian mood of Amsterdam or the livelyhood of Madrid... And to top it all, it rains half the year. But her charm operates in a different manner. It's a city that needs a little work to be appreciated although first impression is good (with the gorgeous Grand-Place). And although Brussels is having a make-over that started at the end of the nineties, it still keeps its provincial charm. |

| | Torn between the small city vibe and the centre of European power it is becoming, Brussels is a city in constant work . To get the most of it, go to the bars, explore the Marolles where the real "Bruselleirs" still live... And when you'll be back home, or off somewhere else on another journey, you'll be surprised to say to yourself: "I could use some Brussels time right now". |

| Pros: | "Architecture, Food, Beer, lots of Green spaces (Parc Royal, Bois de la Cambre, Foret de Soignes), laid-back atmosphere" | | Cons: | "Bruxellisation (destroying old-time and often beautiful building to put ugly insignificant but more modern ones), looks a little sedate at first." |
