blint finally braves the Costa del Sol For many years I have been put off visiting the Costa del sol as it is inundated by English tourists, but this Easter I took the opportunity to visit my friend Curro down in Malaga capital, which, to my liking was not as saturated by tourists as other parts of the coast and remains largely Spanish.
Not many tourists stay here as Malaga isn't one of the most attractive towns in Spain, though as it is so close to Torremolinos and the such like many still come here for the day or of course fly in and out of here.
The outskirts of Malaga are mainly residential and there is a lot of building work going on everywhere especially as they are currently building a metro. Lots of roads are torn up or diverted and the skyline is filled with cranes. The residential areas around the centre and the port consist of blocks of rather ugly flats with the odd pretty street or building thrown in for good measure.
The core of the centre is pretty and even has an Alcazaba (fortress) which is reminiscent of the Alhambra (but not as spectacular of course). |
