We all live with a yellow town hall. - Teruel

We all live with a yellow town hall.

Ajuntamiento

Even the town hall looks really pretty especially when I saw it covered in Chrismas decorations! It is another great break from Mudejar!

I love the colour; it makes it look happy and welcoming.

Directions: Right next to the cathedral.

Pretty non mudejar architecture! - Teruel

Pretty non mudejar architecture!

Plaza Mayor (main square) by another name!

This is a beautiul little square at the heart of teruel. If you're sick to death of mudejar flee here to see what else Teruel has to offer. It has a lot more than Mudejar too. Look at this ornate house in the photo for example. The square is full of interesting buildings such as this one.

I loved walking around this square most at night. I went in December so all the christmas lights were on and the fountain in the middle of the square had been covered over by a large Christmas tree and nativity scene! It seemed very clean and warm at night.

Address: Plaa del Torico

Directions: In the centre of everything.

San Martin was unfortunately undergoing some restoration while as was there, so I didn't manage to get a photo, though to me it looked fantastic. I think I could be my favourite!

It stands alone proud and tall on Plaza Perez Prado.

Directions: Near the town hall.

Which one were you again? - Teruel

Which one were you again?

Where to find all the Mudeja Teruel has 3:

Torre de San Salvador is the only tower which you can climb up. However I missed out as in winter it closes at 2pm and we arrived later! I think in summer it's open until 7pm though.

The tourist info oraganises groups of ten to go up the tower. You can find the Tourist info office at the corner of Tomas Nogues and Fortea.

I got a bit confused with my photos and lost track of which tower was which. They are all beautiful and worth seeing anyway! I think the one in the photo may actually be the one next to the cathedral!

Address: C/ El Salvador

The behind of the cathedral - Teruel

The behind of the cathedral

Where to find all the MudejarTreuel has 2:

The Cathedral which was built in the 12th century also has it's own beautiful mudejar tower although the cathedral itself also has a roman and a renaissance influence.

I did't go inside but I here the Mudejar theme is carried on in there mixed with the gothic style. I now think maybe I should have entered to see the artesonado ceiling which was built bewtween 1260 and 1314. It is apparently combination of geometric shapes and medieval paintings of life in that time.

Address: Plaza de la Catedral

Directions: Next to the Museum Diocessano and near the town hall.

Look at the arches and the built in tiles. - Teruel

Look at the arches and the built in tiles.

¿Mudejar? ¿Que es esto?

Teruel was an important Moorish city, the mudejar towers which add signifcantly to Teruels beauty were built by the Moors. Mudejar basically is the unique type of archtecture and design. It differs greatly from the moorish design in Granada or Sevilla for example and makes Teruel a great place to visit.

Please view my picture for this tip and other tips for examples of the Mudejar architecture.

Directions: Teruel is situated in Southern Aragon very close to Cuenca in Castilla y La Mancha.
