Busy Beijing!

Throw your preconceived notions out the window

Tower with a view...
I had come to Beijing with all these preconceived notions about a communist country and all of those thoughts were thrown away when I was here. Yes you see a soldier here and there especially where I was staying in the diplomatic section, but for the most part Beijing is very hip and modern.

I travelled there in the late June and the city was under a foggy pollution/humidity haze for the first few days of my trip. Then it cleared up and then it rained and cooled to the 60's.

The people are friendly some are too friendly offering you
"cd dvd" just about everywhere you go. There are others like this girl who followed us up and down Sanlitun St. telling us of the "sexy girls and cheap beer" at her place that of course she would find transportation to because the place was nowhere near.

Plenty of hustle and bustle here, traffic is an interesting rollercoaster ride in the back of a tiny taxi. Cars meander down the road in ways that would incite mass road rage incidents in the US.
Truly busy Beijing!

Megapolis...Metropolis!

This city is huge with buildings everywhere. The town is under a building boom to gear up for the 2008 Olympics.

This is a view from the 21st floor restaurant of the Great Wall Sheraton, north, south, east, west you will see similar
tall buildings stretch off into the horizon.
Buildings and traffic
This picture also gives you a glimpse of the traffic here which barely dies down after midnight!

Lots of things to see when you travel by taxi, especially I was impressed with the amount ot tall buildings all sportin the sci-fi look.
