Portage Glacier close-up

Awesome sight!
The glacier has been receeding over the years but the area is surrounded by 9 or so other glaciers some of which you can walk on. There is one called Byron glacier that has ice worms!

Portage Glacier

About an hour south of Anchorage you can visit Portage Glacier. I took the boat tour (check the website for cheaper ticket specials). This is really an awesome site.
Rapids near Hatcher Pass

A few miles North!

I originally came to Alaska on business but with the unlimited amount of sunshine I was able to do most of my site seeing after working a full day.

In a state 1/3 the size of the US there are plenty of wide open spaces.

Pros:"Plenty of sunlight in the Summertime!"
Cons:"You have to force yourself to sleep."
In A Nutshell:"The great outdoors near the metropolis."
