The glacier has been receeding over the years but the area is surrounded by 9 or so other glaciers some of which you can walk on. There is one called Byron glacier that has ice worms! |
|  | Portage Glacier About an hour south of Anchorage you can visit Portage Glacier. I took the boat tour (check the website for cheaper ticket specials). This is really an awesome site. |
|  | A few miles North! I originally came to Alaska on business but with the unlimited amount of sunshine I was able to do most of my site seeing after working a full day.
In a state 1/3 the size of the US there are plenty of wide open spaces. |
