The ease of life. | Man and dog chillout on a lazy day! |
After spending 10 days in Bangkok, I thought this photo pretty much summed up life in Thailand... as a restful, peaceful, easy going existence as you can see the dog sleeping along with the man.
Not far from here I saw a Monitor Lizard perched on a cement embankment. |
| | Okay so Bangkok is famous for its sultry nightlife, not your cup of tea. Well, then try seeing the temples and go shopping for all sorts of things some real some the best darn knock-offs you've ever seen.
This place is raw and visceral, with street vendors cooking all sorts of things like chicken feet, squid, roasted bugs, it smelled bad and smelled good and it was modern yet exotic. The people were very friendly and respectful "Sawatdee Khrab for men, Sawatdee Kaa for women".. One gets this respectful gesture even when buying groceries at the local grocery store.
The bustling traffic of downtown reminded me of the metropolis in the movie Blade Runner. Motorcycles and scooters are rampant. You will see girls precariously sitting side-saddle on them as they weave in and out of traffic at good speeds.
The food is excellent here, I tried to eat very local when I was here. I loved the Pad Thai but didn't try the fried bugs. We went to McDonalds and had a unique Samurai Pork burger it was pretty good. Thai beer was good and fairly strong especially Singha. |
Buddhism This is a photo taken inside Wat Arun, I probably shouldn't have taken it but I was struck by the beauty of these Buddhist icons.
Also, don't be naive like me and dessecrate the temple by wearing your shoes as you walk through here!
There are many real world applications to the teachings of Buddhism:
Four Noble Truths:
1.Suffering exists 2.Suffering arises from attachment to desires 3.Suffering ceases when attachment to desire ceases 4.Freedom from suffering is possible by practicing the Eightfold Path | | |
