Brunei is a small country facing the South China sea on the Borneo island. The country is bordered in the northeast by the Malaysian province Sabah, in the southwest by the Malaysian province Sarawak and in the south by the Indonesian part of the Borneo island, Kalimantan.
The capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, is situated on the northeast part of the country. The oil producing district is situated southwest of Bandar Seri Begawan. The eastern parts of the country has large rainforest areas.
Brunei is a former British colony, so English is widely spoken. Brunei is a traditional islamic monarchy. The sultan of Brunei is known as one of the richest men in the world. The currency is the Brunei dollar, which has a fixed one to one rate to the Singapore dollar. The climate is tropical. It is hot and humid throughout the year. |
