I have never stayed in a hostel before, so Paraiso Hostel was a new experience for me. All in all I have no complaints and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Barcelona on a budget. The hostel is located seconds away from metro Sant Antoni (not-too-useful purple line) and about four minutes from metro Parallel (very useful green line that connects you to Plaza Reial, Plaza Catalunya and Parc Guell). Don't be fooled by the dirty looking entry, the hostel is on the second floor (American numbering system) and has brightly painted walls and nice IKEA-style decorations. No rooms have more than four beds, all rooms have security lockers, and some rooms have attached ensuites. For those in the cheapest rooms, there are two full bathrooms with showers and toilets available, plus two additional toilet-only bathrooms. From what I can tell, all rooms have sinks. The staff are friendly, accommodating and speak a variety of languages. There is a very cheap internet cafe across the street and many restaurants nearby where you can get a good meal for less than five euros (try L'Avia or Restaurant Punjab). The only thing I can say that is negative is that would not recommend that girls walk alone from the Ramblas back to the hostel. I did not feel safe in that part of the neighbourhood at night, although the hostel itself is on a safe street.
Unique Qualities: Clean, bright, friendly staff.

When you're staying in Barcelona, location is key. This hotel is a fifteen-second walk from the cathedral, a six-minute walk from Las Ramblas, a ten-minute walk from Placa Catalunya and a fifteen-minute walk from the sea. It is clean and quiet, with English-speaking staff. It is equipped with an elevator and our second-floor room had everything we needed, including two English news stations on TV. The hotel also has a restaurant-bar that serves an optional breakfast, although we didn't feel it was a good value. Hotel Regencia Colon is a smaller offshoot of the Hotel Colon, which means you receive the same great service as its more expensive partner at a lower price.
