Demak is one of the regencies in Central Java province of Indonesia. It's located on 6º43'26" - 7º09'43" S and 110º48'47" E. Demak regency is bordered by Jepara regency and Java Sea to the north, Kudus and Grobogan regency to the east, Grobogan and Semarang regency to the south and Semarang city to the west.
The first Islamic kingdom was founded by Raden Patah for your blessing and support of the Walisongo expected shortly after the collapse of the Majapahit kingdom that is more or less in the year 1478 AD
According to folklore, the man who first encountered by Raden Patah in Glagah Wangi is "Nyai Lembah" which comes from the Rawa Pening. On the advice of Nyai Lembah then Raden Patah settled a village in Glagah Wangi, later named "Bintoro", in its development and the increasingly hectic society, Bintoro finally became the capital of the country.
Raden Patah was inaugurated as a Sunan of Bintoro in 28 March 1503, then the local government decided the date as Demak Anniversary
Demak Great Mosque is one of the oldest mosque in Indonesia. This mosque has a very important historical value for the development of Islam in the homeland, precisely at the time of the Sultanate of Demak Bintoro. Many people believe the mosque as a gathering place of the guardian disseminator of Islam, which is better known as Walisongo (Nine Wali). The guardians are often gather to worship, discuss the spread of Islam, and taught the Islamic sciences to the population around. Therefore, this mosque can be considered as a living monument to the spread of Islam in Indonesia and the Sultanate of Demak Bintoro evidence of grandeur.
This mosque has a distinctive style of architecture typical of the archipelago. The mosque is using a three-tiered pyramid roof shaped isosceles triangle. Pyramid roof is different from the general roof of the mosque in the Middle East are more used to the dome shape.
This mosque has six windows, which also have meaning pillars of faith, ie believing in Allah, His angels, His Messengers, His Books, the Day of Resurrection, and His qadha-qadar.
Mosque building form many uses material from the timber. With this material, making a round shape with a curved-arch will be easier. Interior parts of the mosque also use materials from wood with carvings are so beautiful.
Masjid Agung Demak adalah sebuah mesjid yang tertua di Indonesia. Masjid ini terletak di desa Kauman, Demak, Jawa Tengah. Masjid ini merupakan tempat berkumpulnya para ulama (wali) penyebar agama Islam, disebut juga Walisongo, untuk membahas penyebaran agama Islam di Tanah Jawa khususnya dan Indonesia pada umumnya. Pendiri masjid ini diperkirakan adalah Raden Patah, yaitu raja pertama dari Kesultanan Demak.
Masjid ini mempunyai bangunan-bangunan induk dan serambi. Bangunan induk memiliki empat tiang utama yang disebut saka guru. Bangunan serambi merupakan bangunan terbuka. Atapnya berbentuk limas yang ditopang delapan tiang yang disebut Saka Majapahit.
Di dalam lokasi kompleks Masjid Agung Demak, terdapat beberapa makam raja-raja Kesultanan Demak dan para abdinya. Di sana juga terdapat sebuah museum, yang berisi berbagai hal mengenai riwayat berdirinya Masjid Agung Demak.
