Shanghai - Chinas modern metropolis.

My thoughts on Shanghai.

Anne and I
Anne and I visited Shanghai for 3 days in July 2008. Although we had an excellent time in Shanghai, I would not say that this is one of my favorite destinations in the world. In fact, like Hong Kong and Singapore, I believe that Shanghai is a perfect stop over destination to unwind for 3 or 4 days.

Apart from the Acrobats Theatre, the Megalev train, The Bund at night, The Oriental Pearl Tower, the Yu Gardens and the Shanghai Museum, I found Shanghai to be just another city that could be anywhere else in the world.
The Oriental Pearl Tower

The Oriental Pearl Tower

Known for its architecture, and the fact that it was the first modern building in Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl Tower is a tourist attraction for its spectacular views and its rotating restaurant.

On the day that we visited, the weather was perfect and it was quite a hot day. By the time we arrived at the tower it was becoming very overcast and within an hour the smog of the city was quite horrendous!

The easiest way to get to the Tower is to take the metro to Lujiazui station in Pudong and depart the station via exit 1. As soon as you “hit the sidewalk” the Pearl Tower is directly in front of you. The metro ticket was 4.50 Yuan and the entry to the viewing platform was 120 Yuan.
The Shanghai museum

The Shanghai museum

The Shanghai museum is located in the centre of the City, with the main entrance located on the Peoples Square. The museum offers an excellent exhibit of most of the cultural relics from China.
Although not large, this 5 story building has dedicated floors to particular themes and periods in time.
Anne and I visited the museum three weeks before the Olympics and the ground floor of the museum was dedicated to the history of the Olympics.

Pros:"A good stop over destination."
Cons:"Smog, smog and more smog."
In A Nutshell:"A pleasent city with not that many attractions."
