Vadodara (literally, the city of banyan trees) is located in the eastern part of the state of Gujarat, in the western region of India. It is a beautiful city of palaces, parks, temples, and museums. Often referred to as the cultural capital of Gujarat, Vadodara is a city of powerful dynastic rulers. It was once the capital city of the erstwhile Gaekwad rulers. The Vishvamitra River flows through the city of Vadodara. It is 100 km to the south of Ahmedabad and 392 km to the north of Mumbai. Modern-day Vadodara is an important industrial city and a major centre of pharmaceutical and glass industry in India.
