"Let's meet somewhere halfway" - that was the idea of our German friends from Berlin and so we chose Goerlitz as our meeting place for the last weekend of August 2008. Everything was perfect: the company (two befriended German couples + us), the place (bth, it was my first visit to Goerlitz - the city just a couple of hours drive from my hometown of Wroclaw), the weather - sun and the blue skies, and the accommodation - a charming guesthouse a few km out of town. |
| | We were lucky to visit Goerlitz in its festive attire - on the day of the town's feast. Yet, after a few hours spent with the crowds we were happy to leave the place and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Lusatian villages. We spent an evening in a typical German inn and came back to Goerlitz next morning to see the more quiet face of the city. And then again out of town to climb the hill of Landscrone offering fantastic views and next to discover charming Lusatian villages with half-timbered houses. Just two days and so many wonderful memories... |

Bwana_Brown Sat Oct 10, 2009 01:40 UTC Excellent page Malgorzata! Your walk over the Goerlitz-Zgorzelec bridge was very moving. St Peter & Paul's has an amazing history & architecture and your shopping spree reminded me of a similar building in Buenos Aires! But sad re the abandoned buildings. | scottishvisitor Wed Mar 11, 2009 18:19 UTC I loved all the details of this pretty town but it is a pity so many buildings have been left to decay. BTW Loved the deer & would rather see them than a bedroom!! | christine.j Mon Feb 9, 2009 17:31 UTC An excellent page about a beautiful city. Görlitz is a gem, you're right about that. | HORSCHECK Fri Jan 23, 2009 21:56 UTC Magor, fabulous page with brilliant photos. Your page brings back memories of our daytrip from Dresden to Goerlitz. Of course we also walked over the bridge to Zgorzelec and did some shopping at Hertie, not as much as you though. *winkygrin* |
