Tuscany is almost too trendy and popular not to become a cliche. Everybody goes to Tuscany, falls in love with it, wants to have (or already has) a house there, and if s/he has a little bit of talent - writes about it.
But it is simply impossible not to love Tuscany. Who can resist its painting-like landscape with undulating hills, charming little towns with red-roofed houses, simple joys of life on one hand and contact with art of the highest rank on the other?
Although the new has appeared here, the old has not been forgotten. Many people live in the houses which are several hundred years old. The rhythm of life is set by changing seasons and time of the day. Tourists quickly adapt to this slow pace of life. What can be nicer than going to a local market and then spending an evening with friends, drinking wine, dipping pieces of bread (surprisingly unsalty) in golden olive and talking about the masterpieces of life seen during the day?
- Pros:art, lanscape, little towns and villages
- Cons:crowded art centres
- In a nutshell:I'd love to go there off-season

Magor, fantastic overview of Tuscany here. Brilliant photos as well. I am glad to read that you also enjoyed Lucca.
What a great tour through Tuscany! I have always thought that it might be too crowded and spoilt but you show us that it's possible to get away from those crowds, and that there are still very many lovely places to explore. And despite the crowds I would love to see Florence some day!
WOW...what an entertaining tour..I thoroughly enjoyed your terrific photos and the interesting information you've shared about the "highlights"..the architecture in all of your stopovers is beautiful.Did you mention that you got to spend the summer here? NICE for you! Thanks for your visit today..I LOVE the beaches and the people in Tobago..its a shame that the hotels have the issues that they do!
Oh what an inspiring guide through Toscana :-) Love the details at Lucca's churches San Michele and San Martin! And Piero della Francesca's painting in Arezzo. Panzano seems to have been a perfect base, it looks very peaceful. And no, nothing is wrong with you when you have some mixed feelings with all the overcrowded places. I am similar and that's why I have chosen Umbria as my place of enchantment :-)
