This is a charming, quiet hotel close to the Vondelpark. Our room was one of two that opened on to a small garden, so we had our own private terrace. The room was spacious, clean and quiet, with good en-suite facilities. Breakfast was served in the main hotel on the other side of the street and was self-service continental, we enjoyed it. There was also a bar.
The hotel is part of an old town house, so the staircases can be steep and narrow, although lifts are available - if you have mobility problems, staff will be happy to find a room for you that is accessible.
The hotel is about a 10 - 15 minute walk from Leidesplein so may be a little far from the action for some, but there are plenty of good restaurants around the area, and decent transport links if you don't want to walk into town. It's also not too far from the museum quarter. We loved it, and would stay there again.
Unique Qualities: It is quite unique, with each room being styled according to the themes of a particular philosopher or ideal. We stayed in the Sappho room, which was decorated with roses, cherubs and paintings of classical women. The theme is carried on through the dining room and bar. The hotel is run by a Philosophy graduate, who hosts monthly philosophy meetings (in Dutch) at the hotel. It's certainly not like anywhere I've stayed before!
