We had originally intended to spend just two nights in Bruges, but ended up staying for five (a long story!) At first we thought this would be too long, but we were proved wrong. Bruges is the perfect place to just amble about - around every corner there is something new and beautiful to see. And when you're tired of wandering, there is always a bar or coffee shop just at hand where you can sit and relax your weary feet. It is a good base to explore other areas of Belgium too - Gent is just under 25 minutes away by train, and Brussels can be reached in under an hour. We visited during one of the hottest Aprils I can remember, but I would love to see it in the depths of winter too, when the canals are icy, the Christmas Markets fill the Grand Place, and you need a constant supply of Bruges' famous hot chocolate to keep you warm! |

Maurizioago Tue Mar 24, 2009 11:02 UTC Brugge is on my wish list since a long time. Ciao! | Museeuw Wed May 2, 2007 13:48 UTC Good idea to come in the winter, but we haven't had a strong winter for a long time anymore. When I was small, we used to walk on the canal from Bruges to Damme when it was frozen. Would love to do that again. |
