Getting TO/AROUND: The waterbuses are a great way to get around Venice if your feet are tired and you don't want to walk anymore. The most economical way to travel is to buy a pass - our three-day passes cost 22 euros in May 2005. Make sure you validate them before you use them by getting them stamped in the little yellow box before you travel, or you risk a fine!

The passes are valid for trips around Venice, and you can also use them to visit the islands of Murano and Burano.

Single tickets are less economical. A one-way ticket will cost you 3 euros 50, unless you are taking the number one waterbus which will cost you 5 euros.

Getting TO/AROUND: We travelled to Venice via Treviso Airport, which is approximately an hour from Venice by bus.

There is a great bus transfer system. Tickets are 8 euros return, and you are taken close to the Grand Canal, where you can catch your waterbus. You are given a timetable with your tickets which tells you exactly which bus you must catch back - every flight has its own bus time so there is no risk of you getting it wrong!

There is only one ticket kiosk at Treviso Airport selling bus tickets, so if you are travelling with somebody, it is worth one of you going ahead to buy the bus tickets while the other one waits for the luggage to arrive. Otherwise you will queue for your bus tickets for a long time!
