"Nothing is like it, nothing is equal to it, not a second Venice in the whole world."* Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote this in 1851, and when I visited the city for the first time over 150 years later, I found myself in total agreement. Venice is simply the most beautiful place I have ever visited, and a totally unique experience. Around every corner there is something special, be it a courtyard, palazzo or bridge. We wandered for hours through the city, never once feeling bored or tired of the place. |
| | I will always be slightly biased towards Venice though, and I guess you could say I was viewing it through rose-tinted spectacles. For on our first morning there, we took a gondola ride and my boyfriend proposed to me! So I must admit, I did spend my holiday on a fluffy white cloud - but can you blame me? What a perfect place to pop the question, I couldn't have imagined anywhere more special. |
